As a Product Development Director, you will play a critical leadership role in shaping the future product portfolio and supporting the company's financial targets and longer-term growth. You will be responsible for:
- Developing and managing the innovation/renovation pipeline for the assigned zone, ensuring impactful deliverables that align with business, brand, and future market needs.
- Leading, coaching, and developing the R&D team to achieve objectives focused on timely product cycle management, product innovation, enhancing user experience, and continuous improvement of product cost across existing and potential categories.
- Collaborating closely with global Marketing and Insight Teams to identify longer-term consumer trends and needs, effectively translating technology into tangible product benefits for consumers and customers.
- Exploring and validating appropriate ingredients and packaging for sensorial and cost improvements, ensuring compliance with product quality and safety standards.
- Managing production trials at the pilot plant and overseeing efficient production preparation, including specifications and processing instructions, during commercial runs.
- Ensuring all products consistently meet brand promises, customer expectations, relevant regulatory guidelines, and internal company policies.
- Constantly reviewing and adapting the R&D strategy to support the continuous growth of the assigned zones.
- Overseeing the accuracy and proper maintenance of all operational documentation.
- Taking on various ad hoc projects as assigned by the company.
skills & experiences required.
- A Degree in Food Science, Food Processing, Food Engineering, Food Chemistry, or a related discipline is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive technical management experience in a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) operation.
- At least 10 years of experience in a managerial position focused on product development, with both B2B and B2C experience considered an advantage.
- Proven experience in a broad range of projects requiring diverse technical exposure and cross-functional interfacing is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of raw materials, food packaging, and food safety systems is essential to assure product compliance with specifications and regulations.
- Demonstrated strong leadership and soft skills for effective interaction at all levels.
- Excellent planning, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven leadership ability to establish and maintain an effective management function aligned with the company’s strategic initiatives.
- Ability to lead a team of diverse backgrounds and maximize each staff’s strengths.
- Excellent communication skills, both in English and Chinese.
- Willingness to travel as required.
