Our client is an established, full-service financial institution in Hong Kong providing a comprehensive suite of consumer, commercial, and financial market solutions.
Due to continued business development, they are inviting a commercially minded 4+ PQE Legal Counsel to join their in-house legal team. Working as a key member of the Legal Department and reporting to senior legal leadership, you will provide professional legal advice, services, and operational support across diverse business lines and corporate initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting & Documentation: Draft, review, and negotiate standard and bespoke facility agreements, customer terms and conditions, commercial contracts, and vendor agreements.
- New Products & Projects: Review and evaluate legal risks associated with new financial products, digital service rollouts, and strategic business initiatives.
- Advisory Services: Deliver practical, timely legal advice to front-office business units, treasury desks, and operational support teams on day-to-day transactions and business queries.
- Policies & Governance: Maintain and update legal manuals, templates, and operational policies to reflect evolving statutory requirements and market standards.
- External Counsel Management: Instruct and coordinate with external law firms on contentious matters, specialized transactions, and leasing agreements; assist in monitoring legal spend and panel efficiency.
- Internal Training: Prepare and conduct internal legal updates and training sessions to foster risk awareness across key business divisions.
- Regulatory Support: Collaborate closely with the Compliance department to navigate regulatory developments and assist with routine regulatory liaison in Hong Kong.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in Hong Kong.
- Minimum 4+PQE gained in a recognized law firm, financial institution, or corporate in-house legal team.
- Proven experience handling general banking, financing documentation, or broad commercial legal matters.
- Strong command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Mandarin).
- Pragmatic commercial mindset with strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
