Role OverviewWe are seeking a seasoned banking executive to join as the Deputy Head of the IBD. Reporting directly to the Department Head, you will play a critical role in steering the strategic direction of the division, managing a team of approximately 30 professionals, and driving business growth across the Asia Pacific region.
The ideal candidate will be a market leader with deep expertise in Structured Finance, Project Finance, Syndicated Finance and M&A Finance, capable of leveraging strong cross-border networks to capture opportunities between the local, PRC and international markets.
Key Responsibilities1. Strategic Leadership & Management
Departmental Strategy: Assist the Department Head in formulating and executing the department’s annual business plans, financial budgets, and strategic initiatives to expand market share in the APAC region.
Team Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of a ~30-person department. Provide mentorship, leadership, and performance management to team leaders and junior staff, fostering a high-performance culture.
Operational Efficiency: Optimize internal workflows, credit approval processes, and resource allocation to ensure efficient deal execution and portfolio management.
2. Business Origination & Client Coverage
Deal Sourcing: Lead the origination efforts for high-value transactions, specifically in Structured Finance, Project Finance, Syndicated Finance and M&A Finance.
Key Client Management: Act as a senior representative of the bank, cultivating relationships with C-suite executives of large corporate clients, SOEs, blue-chip companies, and multinational corporations.
Syndication & Distribution: Leverage extensive networks with peer banks and financial institutions to drive successful syndication and distribution strategies for large-ticket mandates.
3. Execution Oversight & Credit Quality
Transaction Supervision: Provide senior-level guidance on complex deal structuring, financial modeling, and term sheet negotiations. Ensure all financing proposals are commercially viable and risk-appropriate.
Risk Management: Uphold the bank’s asset quality by rigorously reviewing credit applications and due diligence reports. Ensure robust risk mitigation strategies are in place for complex cross-border transactions.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all department activities comply with internal policies, HKMA regulations, and PRC regulatory policies concerning cross-border investment and financing.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or above in Finance, Accounting, Law, or a related discipline. An MBA or professional qualifications (CFA, CPA, Legal certification) are highly preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 15 years of experience in Corporate or Investment Banking, with a strong track record in Structured Finance (Project, Aircraft, Vessel) and M&A execution.
At least 8-10 years of supervisory experience, with proven ability to manage large, diverse teams (managing managers).
Language: Excellent command of written and spoken Cantonese, English and Mandarin is mandatory.
