Lead the ongoing development and implementation of the bank's climate strategy, with a strong emphasis on carbon emission calculations and data analysis. This includes formulating transition plans, identifying climate change-related risks and opportunities, and integrating climate considerations into all aspects of the bank's decision-making processes and operations.
Take charge of managing financed emissions by evaluating and reporting emissions, setting ambitious reduction targets, and collaborating with business units to identify lucrative opportunities with low carbon footprints.
Play a pivotal role in driving the bank's green and sustainable finance (GSF) business, aligning it with the institution's net zero aspirations. Enhance the GSF framework, evaluate new GSF products, and closely monitor performance to ensure sustainable growth.
Act as a subject matter expert on the bank's net zero transition, continuously staying abreast of emerging trends, regulations, and best practices. Proactively identify avenues for improving the bank's emissions performance and contribute to its industry leadership.
Supervise relationships with consultants and vendors, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints within the department while leveraging their expertise to achieve optimal results.
Engage with external stakeholders, including regulators, customers, and industry groups, to champion the bank's sustainability initiatives and gather valuable feedback on its sustainability performance.
Collaborate closely with data teams to develop the bank's robust ESG data platform, exploring suitable solutions from external vendors to enhance its comprehensiveness and effectiveness in analyzing carbon emissions and other relevant factors.
Maintain strict compliance with all applicable regulations, rules, codes, guidelines, and standards set by regulators and the bank, conducting all duties with the utmost integrity.
Adhere rigorously to established risk control guidelines, procedures, and measures for identifying, assessing, reporting, mitigating, and monitoring risks associated with daily work activities, ensuring a robust risk management framework is in place.
skills & experiences required.
- Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in sustainability, environmental sciences, finance, or a relevant field, demonstrating a solid educational foundation in the subject matter.
- Have a minimum of 14 years of extensive experience in sustainability, green and sustainable finance (GSF), ESG data management, or related fields, preferably gained within the financial services industry. Frontline experience in these areas is highly advantageous.
- Possess a deep understanding and strong expertise in renewable energy, sector decarbonization, carbon markets, regulatory developments, and industry best practices. The ability to effectively apply this knowledge to the bank's business and operational decision-making processes is essential.
- Demonstrate exceptional analytical skills, including the ability to gather, analyze, and interpret complex ESG data. Proficiency in conducting thorough data analysis and utilizing it to drive informed sustainability strategies and initiatives is highly valued.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills, with a particular emphasis on fluency in Cantonese and Putonghua. This enables effective communication of intricate sustainability concepts to a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior executives, business units, regulators, and other relevant parties.
- Showcase strong project management capabilities, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Proven experience in successfully managing complex sustainability projects from initiation to completion is highly desired.
- Possess a track record of effectively collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. This includes engaging with senior executives, business units, and regulatory bodies to foster productive relationships and drive sustainable initiatives forward.
With your background in sustainable finance, ESG consulting, and ESG advisory, you are well-positioned to excel in this role. You should possess over 14 years of experience in ESG rating agencies, advisory firms, or corporate investment banks, demonstrating a strong foundation in the field. Holding relevant professional certifications such as CFA, CFA ESG Investing, or CPA would be highly desirable. Familiarity with ESG data and analysis tools, such as Bloomberg Terminal, is also advantageous. As a valuable member of the team, you will contribute to achieving team targets while meticulously conducting comprehensive financial and risk assessments within the bank's ESG policy and parameters. Attention to detail and a keen eye for analysis will be crucial in this role. Due to the targeted client segment, fluency in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English will be necessary for daily communication and collaboration.
