about the job.
- Spearhead the ongoing development and implementation of the bank's climate strategy, encompassing the formulation of transition plans, identification of climate change-related risks and opportunities, and integration of climate considerations into the bank's business decisions and operations.
- Oversee the management of financed emissions by evaluating and reporting emissions, establishing emission reduction targets, and collaborating with business units to identify business opportunities with low carbon footprints.
- Contribute to the growth of the bank's green and sustainable finance (GSF) business, aligning with its net zero aspirations. This includes enhancing the GSF framework, evaluating new GSF products, and monitoring performance.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on the bank's net zero transition, remaining updated on trends, regulations, and best practices, and identifying avenues for enhancing the bank's emissions performance.
Supervise relationships with relevant consultants and vendors, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints within the department. - Engage with external stakeholders, such as regulators, customers, and industry groups, to promote the bank's sustainability initiatives and gather feedback on its sustainability performance.
- Collaborate with data teams to develop the bank's ESG data platform and explore suitable solutions from external vendors to enhance the platform's comprehensiveness and effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, rules, codes, guidelines, and standards set by regulators and the bank, and carry out duties with the utmost integrity.
- Adhere to established risk control guidelines, procedures, and measures for identifying, assessing, reporting, mitigating, and monitoring risks associated with daily work activities.
skills & experiences required.
- Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in sustainability, environmental sciences, finance, or a related field.
- Possess a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in sustainability, GSF, ESG data management, or related fields, preferably within the financial services industry. Frontline experience is advantageous.
- Demonstrate strong expertise in renewable energy, sector decarbonization, carbon markets, regulatory developments, and best practices, with the ability to apply this knowledge to the bank's business and operational decision-making.
- Exhibit strong analytical skills, including the ability to gather, analyze, and interpret ESG data.
- Display excellent communication skills, with a preference for proficiency in Cantonese and Putonghua, enabling effective communication of complex sustainability concepts to a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Showcase strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Possess experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives, business units, and regulators.
Your background associated with sustainable finance, ESG consulting, ESG advisory etc. will help you succeed in this role. You will have 11+ years of experience in ESG rating agencies/advisory firms or other corporate investment banks. Relevant professional certifications such as CFA/CFA ESG Investing/CPA are also desirable, as would experience with ESG data and analysis tools such as Bloomberg Terminal. You will be a team player in achieving team targets and also detail minded in conducting in-depth financial and risk assessment within ESG policy and parameters of the bank. Due to the targeted client segment, you will be required to speak Mandarin, Cantonese and English on a daily basis.
